It’s really easy to hail a bus from the entrance of the hotel and the local buses (or Dolmus) will also stop anywhere for you to get off.  In about ten minutes you can be entering the main town of Kyrenia, with its abundance of shops, restaurants, fancy cafes and bars to enjoy. The traditional harbour, which is a bit further on the bus by the Colony Hotel, is famous for its historical sites and definitely worth a visit or two.  It also makes a lovely summer evening out.

If you fancy trying out a local restaurant close to the hotel, The Ambiance Restaurant is definitely the most recommended restaurant in this area. Booking for this restaurant is essential due to its popularity.  It enjoys a fantastic atmosphere, looks over the coast and serves one of the most extensive menus on the island.

St Fanourios church is also to be found in the village of Karaoglanoglu, overlooking the sea. It is small and well preserved historical place of worship, dedicated to St Fanourios. As myth has it, it is built at the point where he fell and met his end whilst climbing the steep cliffs. Dedicated to St George, unlike most of the Orthodox churches in North Cyprus, this is still an active place of worship, and you will often see a candle burning on the small altar upon your visit.

Another highly recommended place to visit is the beautiful traditional village of Karmi, full of flowers and with views to the coast and inland to St Hilarion castle. Start your exploration at the village car park, and if your visit happens to be on a Sunday morning, you can also enjoy dropping by the former Greek Orthodox Church, currently a quaint little North Cyprus museum.

If you enjoy water sports, Escape Beach in Alsancak is the most popular option in Kyrenia, fortunately, situated only a five minute drive away in the neighbouring town of Alsancak.  If its horse riding you prefer, there are various stables offering riding lessons in Karaoglanoglu and Alsancak.  Most stables allow their customers to hire horses to take out into the mountains and coasts, which is a sensational experience.  Ask the friendly receptionist to give them a call for you to obtain their current opening hours and detailed directions.
